I like to take my dog for a jog in the morning, but on darker or cloudy days, we’re less visible. I want to make sure that my dog gets out of the house, but I don’t want to risk his safety, which is why I purchased a dog vest for him. It fits him perfectly and doesn’t impede his movement whatsoever.
Similar to the vests worn by construction workers and crossing guards, this bright orange vest has reflective tape and can be seen in the dark and foggy mornings. Now when we go out, I don’t have to worry about either one of us getting hurt due to low visibility.

It’s been getting colder out there lately. Sometimes I think twice about going out because the temperature is just freezing. I hate having to leave my dog home along when I do my errands.
My dog hates staying indoors all the time, so I got a dog jacket that will keep him warm on our trips outdoors. At least I’m sure he’s warm despite the cold weather. He looks so cute in his new coat, too.
Most every day we notice cute, small dogs with their owners. More often than not these days, these little dogs are wearing an article of clothing. Dog clothing serves an important purpose this time of year. Our dogs get cold outdoors like we do and need an extra layer of fabric for warmth and comfort when they are out and about. I wouldn’t put a jacket or coat on my large Golden Retriever, but I have found the perfect solution to keep her cozy on our winter walks. It is a blanket dog coat. I put it over her back and fasten it quickly with Velcro ties. In a flash, we’re ready to go outdoors, and I know she’s as comfortable in the cold as I am in my warm jacket.
While most people might think dog apparel requires special care and washing, in most cases it can be cared for in the same manner as people clothing. Cleaning and washing dog clothing all depends on the fabric, just like our clothes. For example, it’s not a good idea to put suede or leather in the washing machine, but cotton clothing is just fine for the most part. But with cotton, it is important to be careful of shrinking, as cotton dog clothing tends not to be pre-washed. Most dog clothing can go in the washing machine, but it might be necessary for some items to be dry cleaned. For delicates, washing by hand is also an option. Because dogs are closer to the floor, it’s natural for their clothing to become saturated with dust and grit, and it’s important to perform regular cleanings to keep the clothing looking at its best.
You can use all the standard cleaners on dog clothing including detergent, fabric softener, and bleach (for whites). Just be careful to follow the instructions on the clothing or use your best judgment.
Spring is the time for romance and weddings. We are all currently aware of cutting back on our lavish plans to save some money, but one area we simply can’t scrimp on is our pet’s festive attire at the ceremony. I recently attended my good friend’s wedding and she had her darling pooch decked out in the cutest dog tuxedo. He looked almost as handsome than the groom! Because he looked so cute, he provided us with many laughs. It was one of the most fun weddings I have ever been to!
Ratchet, the Iraqi puppy, finally had his very best day yet. An animal rescue group flew into Baghdad on Sunday, October 19 and loaded him onto a charter flight. He was due to arrive in Minnesota at the end of the week. Ratchet was adopted by Army Spc. Gwen Beberg, 28, from Minnesota. Beberg, along with another soldier, rescued the puppy from a burning pile of trash last May.
It was the third try by Operation Baghdad Pups to get Ratchet out of the country on behalf of Beberg who says she couldn’t have made it through her 13 month deployment without the mutt. “He has been her emotional support, confidante, sanity-saver and a connection with something other than a war zone,” Beberg’s mother reported.
Ratchet would look and feel terrific in a new, soft parka for his first winter in the U.S.
Dog clothing serves many purposes other than just making a dog appear stylish. Warmth is the number one reason for dog outerwear, which provides the insulation he or she needs outdoors or even in a drafty house.
Dog clothing can keep dogs with allergies from scratching, chewing, and licking their itchy skin as well as keeping allergies off the dog’s skin in the first place. Dog clothing also protects people that may be allergic to the dog by decreasing the amount of dander in the air.
Why are more pets traveling?
Airlines and hotels are making it easier and, we can all agree, they’re members of the family, and we want to take them along.
What are some recent trends?
Aromatherapy can help with nervous pets while traveling. A spray of lavender relaxes both pets and people.
What are some especially pet-friendly destinations?
Los Angeles – there is so much outdoor dining. And New York – you’ll see more and more dogs in the aisles of department stores.
What’s important to pack for your pet?
Shot information, vet’s phone number, and an emergency vet’s number. Remember a chew or treat, a spare leash, and be sure to remember a fashionable jacket for cold weather.
What’s easier – traveling with a dog or a baby?
We find most dogs are much quieter than most babies on a plane, so our vote does with the dog.
